The United States Cellular Corporation (USM) and Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. (TDS) announced that the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division has concluded its investigation concerning their proposed transaction with T-Mobile. The announcement marks the removal of a significant regulatory obstacle; however, the agreement still requires approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Both companies are actively engaged with the FCC, assisting in its independent review process.

UScellular, based in Chicago, offers a broad array of wireless products and services, boasting 4.4 million retail connections across 21 states. As of March 31, 2025, it employed approximately 4,100 associates. TDS, the parent company of UScellular, owned about 83% of the corporation by the end of the first quarter in 2025. Headquartered in Chicago, TDS provides wireless, broadband, video, and voice services to about 5.5 million connections nationwide, employing around 7,800 associates.

The closure of the DOJ's review is a crucial step forward; however, the transaction's completion timeline remains uncertain pending the FCC's final decision. United States Cellular (USM) and Telephone and Data Systems (TDS, Financial) continue to prioritize regulatory compliance while working towards finalizing the deal with T-Mobile.
