Google has reportedly agreed to pay approximately $2.4 billion to acquire technology from AI coding startup Windsurf. The deal includes hiring Windsurf's CEO and some employees. This agreement was reached after previous negotiations between OpenAI and Windsurf stalled.
Google's parent company, Alphabet, is set to integrate a small number of Windsurf employees into its DeepMind division, focusing on "agentic coding." Additionally, Google will obtain non-exclusive licensing rights to some of Windsurf's technology, enhancing its AI capabilities.
