Elon Musk has publicly stated that he does not support a merger between Tesla (TSLA, Financial) and xAI, leaving many to speculate about the future relationship between the electric vehicle manufacturer and the AI company. This statement came in response to a question posed to Tesla investors on social media platform X, where Musk simply replied, "No support."
This development arises as Musk considers the future interconnections among his various enterprises. He recently suggested that Tesla may hold a shareholder vote to decide whether the automaker should invest in xAI, the company he founded, which has developed the controversial Grok AI chatbot. Last year, Musk conducted a poll asking his followers if Tesla should invest $5 billion in xAI, with the majority showing support.
Musk has been working towards closer collaboration among his companies. In March, he facilitated a merger between xAI and the X platform, valuing the AI company at $80 billion and the social media company at $33 billion. Additionally, Musk announced that xAI's Grok chatbot would be integrated into Tesla vehicles, despite recent criticism over the chatbot's controversial remarks.
