Consumers Energy (CMS) has announced an update to its State Emergency Relief (SER) policy to provide enhanced financial assistance to income-qualified customers. Eligible customers can now receive up to $500 in support per utility service, irrespective of past-due balances. This policy, effective immediately, extends through September 30, 2025, allowing both new applicants and previous recipients who haven't reached the $500 cap to apply for additional funding.

Last year, the program's expansion resulted in significant support, with 540,000 customers receiving a total of $38.4M in relief funding. This aid benefited 137,000 families across 30 counties in Michigan, indicating a broad reach and substantial impact within the community.

Consumers Energy, which serves 6.8 million residents in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, has also introduced "My Personalized Offerings." This complimentary tool empowers customers to identify and enroll in payment assistance and energy management programs that suit their specific needs.
