Fluence Energy, Inc. (FLNC), a leader in energy storage solutions, has been appointed by VERBUND to spearhead two substantial battery storage projects in Germany. These projects will collectively offer a capacity of 92 MW with a storage capacity of 186 MWh.
The first project located in Weißenthurm-Kettig, Rhineland-Palatinate, is set to deliver 50 MW/100 MWh, while the second in Elsterberg-Coschütz, Saxony, will provide 42.9 MW/86.5 MWh. These initiatives are strategically designed to combat the fluctuations within the electricity grid caused by variable renewable energy sources and will contribute significantly to grid-supporting services.
VERBUND, an influential utility in Germany’s energy sector, currently operates 110 MW/130 MWh of storage capacity. The company is resolute in its ambition to install around 1 GW of storage capacity by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy and grid stability. The collaboration with Fluence leverages their extensive expertise in large-scale battery storage, incorporating advanced noise protection features and stringent cybersecurity measures.
