  • The company introduces a modular sill concept suitable for electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Constellium SE (CSTM), a leader in innovative aluminum solutions, has announced the completion of its FlexCAR project in collaboration with ARENA2036, Germany's top research campus for future mobility. Over five years, Constellium worked with industry giants such as Mercedes-Benz, Siemens, and Bosch to develop modular vehicle systems utilizing aluminum technology.

The project led to the creation of a modular sill concept leveraging HSA6â„¢ high-strength aluminum alloys with recycled content. This innovative design is optimized to accommodate a range of powertrains, including electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, offering enhanced crash performance, design flexibility, and a reduced carbon footprint over the vehicle lifecycle.

In addition to FlexCAR, Constellium's collaboration with ARENA2036 on the Digital Fingerprint project has yielded a digital twin system to track aluminum component performance throughout their lifecycle. This enables advanced predictive maintenance and data-driven manufacturing strategies, potentially transforming the industry approach to component lifecycle management.

Constellium's strategic alliances and groundbreaking innovations position it at the forefront of the automotive sector's shift towards modular architecture and greener powertrain technologies. This positions Constellium (CSTM, Financial) strategically at the intersection of two major industry trends: vehicle architecture modularization and the transition to alternative powertrains.
