Walmart is restructuring certain store support and training positions in its latest move to simplify its organizational structure. An internal memo revealed that the company plans to eliminate the role of market coordinators, who assist managers in data coordination and analysis. This change is part of a broader strategy to focus on high-volume locations and increase in-person employee training.
Despite these changes, Walmart aims to offer affected employees alternative coaching positions or create new roles where vacancies do not exist. As the largest private employer in the U.S., with around 1.6 million employees domestically and approximately 2.1 million worldwide, Walmart continues its efforts to streamline operations.
Earlier this year, Walmart announced plans to lay off about 1,500 employees, impacting its global tech operations, U.S. store e-commerce teams, and its advertising arm, Walmart Connect. The company also cut positions and closed an office in North Carolina as part of a strategy to relocate employees to major hubs in California and Arkansas.
