Lucid Group, Inc. (LCID) has joined forces with Nuro, Inc. and Uber Technologies, Inc. (UBER) to introduce a next-generation premium global robotaxi service exclusively on Uber's platform. The initiative plans to deploy over 20,000 Lucid vehicles equipped with Nuro's Level 4 self-driving technology over the next six years.
The initial rollout is scheduled for late 2026 in a significant US city. The project will see Uber making multi-hundred-million-dollar investments in both Lucid and Nuro to support the development and deployment of this ambitious program. Lucid's vehicles, particularly the Lucid Gravity, will be utilized, offering an EPA estimated range of 450 miles, which is expected to minimize downtime for charging and optimize fleet economics.
The partnership intends to leverage Lucid Gravity's advanced technology platform and Nuro Driver's AI-powered self-driving system. A prototype is already operating autonomously at Nuro’s Las Vegas proving grounds, marking significant progress in the development phase.
Through this collaboration, the companies aim to set a new standard in autonomous ride-hailing, potentially transforming urban mobility by making autonomous vehicles more accessible and efficient across Uber's extensive global network. This strategic alignment emphasizes a shared vision of advancing autonomous technology at scale, promising a safer, more connected future in transportation.
