Lucid Group, Inc. (LCID), Nuro, Inc., and Uber Technologies, Inc. (UBER) have announced a significant collaboration to develop a next-generation autonomous robotaxi service. This cutting-edge program will be designed exclusively for the Uber ride-hailing platform, marking a substantial advancement in autonomous vehicle technology.

Uber plans to deploy over 20,000 Lucid vehicles, integrated with Nuro Driverâ„¢ Level 4 autonomy, in the next six years across multiple markets globally. These vehicles will be available exclusively through the Uber platform, aiming to offer a highly integrated and advanced autonomous driving experience. The first of these innovative robotaxis is expected to debut in a major US city in the subsequent year.

The collaboration highlights Lucid's advanced vehicle architecture, particularly in its Lucid Gravity model, which will be equipped with Nuro's autonomy-enabling hardware and software. Uber's extensive global reach, with operations in 70 countries and an average of 34 million daily trips, provides the necessary scale to effectively roll out and manage this innovative robotaxi service.

Uber's CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, emphasized the transformative potential of autonomous vehicles, stating, "We’re thrilled to partner with Nuro and Lucid to bring the magic of autonomous driving to more people across the world." Similarly, Nuro and Lucid expressed their commitment to redefining urban mobility by leveraging their technology expertise and Uber's expansive platform.
