TELUS Corporation (TU) recently participated in the United Nations AI for Good Global Summit 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 8 to 11, underscoring its dedication to responsible AI development and ethical innovation. During the summit, TELUS emphasized its human-centric approach to AI, engaging in discussions that highlighted the importance of AI literacy and responsible governance.

As a member of the AI Skills Coalition, led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), TELUS has committed to closing the AI skills gap and ensuring equitable participation in AI development. Notably, TELUS hosted an interactive workshop featuring its proprietary Fuel iXâ„¢ platform, focused on integrating Indigenous perspectives into ethical AI creation.

TELUS has been recognized globally as the first company to receive the ISO 31700-1 Privacy by Design certification for its generative AI customer support tool. This achievement aligns with the company's ongoing efforts to prioritize transparency and accountability in AI practices.

In another significant development, TELUS announced the launch of its Sovereign AI Factories in Canada. These facilities, including a data center in Rimouski, Quebec, operate using 99% renewable energy and boast energy efficiency levels three times higher than the industry average. This initiative reflects TELUS's commitment to sustainable AI practices and innovation.

The company's strategic partnerships with Indigenous communities further enhance its AI initiatives. Through collaborative workshops and tools like wâsikan kisewâtisiwin, TELUS incorporates Indigenous Knowledge to address unconscious bias and promote inclusivity in AI systems.

By adopting the Hiroshima AI Process Reporting Framework and becoming the first Canadian telecom to sign the Government's voluntary GenAI code of conduct, TELUS sets a precedent for ethical AI governance. The company continues to foster trust and transparency in data practices, reinforcing its leadership in the global AI landscape.
