Apple (AAPL, Financial) is preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market with its iPhone Fold, expected to launch in 2026. Though Apple is arriving late to the foldable segment, it aims to set new standards by focusing on reducing crease visibility and enhancing durability compared to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold. The delay in release is primarily due to crease issues. Rumors suggest the iPhone Fold will feature a large battery ranging from 5000 to 5500mAh, the largest in iPhone history, utilizing silicon-carbon technology to maintain thinness.

The iPhone Fold will feature the A20 Pro processor, built on TSMC's 2nm process, and will use Samsung panels with laser processes to eliminate creases. It will also include a dual 48MP camera system. Despite not being the first in the foldable category, Apple's marketing prowess is expected to quickly position it as a market leader. The potential starting price is around $2000, positioning it among the most expensive iPhones.

Apple's entry into this segment is significant given the rising popularity of foldable smartphones, especially in China. While it might not revolutionize the market initially, Apple's influence and engineering could transform the niche into a global trend.
