Microsoft (MSFT, Financial) announced that hackers, allegedly backed by the Chinese government, are exploiting vulnerabilities in its SharePoint document management software. The breaches target organizations and government entities worldwide. Two Chinese-backed groups, dubbed "Linen Typhoon" and "Violet Typhoon," have reportedly taken advantage of these software weaknesses. These vulnerabilities arise when customers manage SharePoint on their networks instead of the cloud. Another hacking group based in China is also using these exploits. Microsoft is continuing its investigation into the extent of these breaches and their impact on other users.
