Amazon has announced its acquisition of startup Bee AI, known for its $50 wearable AI assistant. Although the financial terms were not disclosed, Bee's AI voice wristband will be integrated into Amazon's hardware lineup, marking another step in Amazon's AI expansion.
Bee AI, founded in 2022 and formerly known as Bluush, developed a wristband capable of recording and transcribing user activities using an array of microphones and proprietary AI models. It can generate summaries, to-do lists, and reminders in real-time. The startup raised approximately $8.5 million from investors, according to PitchBook.
Amazon spokesperson Alexandra Miller confirmed that Bee's employees have been invited to join Amazon, but she did not disclose the acquisition amount as the deal is still pending completion.
This acquisition aligns with Amazon's recent focus on AI, including the release of its Nova large model, Trainium chips, and other AI-driven products. The company has also upgraded its Alexa voice assistant to incorporate AI capabilities, aiming to compete with ChatGPT and others. Additionally, Amazon's smart home brand Ring is exploring generative AI for home security applications.
