Microsoft (MSFT, Financial) has reported that hackers, allegedly from China, have exploited a vulnerability in its SharePoint document management software to launch cyberattacks on businesses and government agencies globally. According to sources, these cyberattacks have breached government networks in Europe and the Middle East, as well as in the United States, including systems of the Department of Education, the Florida Department of Revenue, and the Rhode Island legislature.
The Chinese Embassy in the United States has issued a statement opposing all forms of cyberattacks and cybercrime. It emphasized the need for any conclusions regarding cyber incidents to be drawn based on solid evidence rather than unfounded accusations and urged for a professional and responsible approach in dealing with such incidents.
