- Sasol Chemicals partners with INERATEC to supply next generation catalysts for e-SAF production.
- The new catalysts aim to improve e-kerosene yield by 15% and will be available in 2026.
- INERATEC operates the world's largest Power-to-Liquid facility, targeting an annual production of 2,500 tons of sustainable e-Fuels.
Sasol Chemicals, a division of Sasol Ltd. (SOL: JSE), has entered into a Letter of Intent with German startup INERATEC to supply its next generation catalyst for the production of sustainable e-Fuels. This strategic partnership is set to enhance INERATEC's existing operations by increasing e-kerosene yield by 15% once the catalysts are rolled out in 2026.
INERATEC's ERA ONE facility, the largest Power-to-Liquid (PtL) plant globally, is at the forefront of producing eco-friendly e-Waxes and e-Fuels, with an annual production target of up to 2,500 tons. Currently, the facility utilizes Sasol's state-of-the-art Cobalt FT catalyst, known for its effectiveness and reliability developed over the past three decades.
The collaboration between Sasol and INERATEC extends beyond this agreement, with both companies being part of the CARE-O-SENE research project, a German-South African initiative aiming to advance sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). This partnership aligns with industry and political commitments to reduce fossil fuel dependence in air transportation.
"The development in this field is rapid, and the commencement of ERA ONE in June 2025 is a significant stride for INERATEC," stated Tim Böltken, Founder and Managing Director of INERATEC. "A partner like Sasol Chemicals is crucial for achieving our goals in the e-SAF sector."
Sasol, a leader in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis technology, has been innovating in the realm of catalysts since the technique was first patented by German chemists in 1925. This expertise underscores Sasol's continued role in advancing sustainable and scalable fuel technologies.
