- Diodes Incorporated introduces new 80V ideal diode controllers for the automotive sector.
- The AP74502Q and AP74502HQ offer robust protection against reverse connections and voltage transients.
- These controllers support both 12V and 24V battery systems, including emerging 48V systems.
Diodes Incorporated (DIOD, Financial) has launched the AP74502Q and AP74502HQ, 80V ideal diode controllers designed for modern automotive architectures, enhancing protection against reverse battery polarity and overvoltage. These controllers are particularly useful in automotive applications such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), body control modules, infotainment systems, exterior lighting, and USB charging ports.
The controllers offer features such as fast reverse polarity protection circuits and load disconnect functions during overvoltage and undervoltage events. With an 80V capability, they accommodate 12V and 24V battery systems, including those in hybrid and battery electric vehicles (EVs), as well as the emerging 48V systems.
The introduction of 48V systems supports automotive innovations, including electric turbocharging and enhanced regenerative braking, while promoting efficient power distribution through potential zonal architectures. The ±80V rating is crucial for the more demanding overvoltage stress conditions seen in these systems.
In contrast to ideal diodes featuring reverse current blocking, the new devices allow energy return to the input supply. Additionally, they can be configured as surge stoppers to mitigate unsuppressed load dump transients.
The AP74502Q and AP74502HQ also handle input voltages as low as 3.2V, ensuring operation during severe cold crank conditions. Both devices possess a peak gate turn-off sink current of 2.3A, allowing rapid turn-off of the external N-channel MOSFETs during overvoltage or undervoltage situations. These devices are available in the standard SOT28 package, suited for temperatures from -40°C to +125°C.
Available for $0.27 each in 1,000-piece quantities, these controllers highlight Diodes Incorporated's commitment to delivering high-quality semiconductor products for high-volume, high-growth markets.
