Daniel Loeb's New Positions for 1QFY15

Daniel Loeb (Trades, Portfolio) of Third Point, LLC recently added nine new positions to his portfolio during 1QFY15. He currently owns 40 stocks and his portfolio has a total value around $10.76 billion and a 14% quarter over quarter turnover.

27.2% of Loeb's portfolio is made up of stocks in the healthcare sector. Next is the consumer cyclical sector, which consists of 14.3% of his portfolio and basic materials, which is 12.3% of the portfolio.

Loeb purchased 3,300,000 shares of Yum! Brands Inc (YUM, Financial) at an average price of $75.94 a share.

Yum Brands develops, operates, franchises and licenses restaurants that prepare, package and sell food items for restaurants such as Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell. The company was incorporated in 1997.

The Peter Lynch earnings line is currently at $34, which indiates the stock may currently be overvalued, as it is trading for $$93.96 a share.

Earnings per share for the trailing twelve months as of March 2015 was $2.24. Investors should be cautious of the P/E ratio, which is currently 42.04 and close to the 10-year high of 42.13.

1,593,200 shares of NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI, Financial) were purchased at an average price of 88.08 a share.

The semiconductor company is a provider of high-performance, mixed-signal and standard product solutions that are used in automotive, identification, wireless infrastructure, lighting industrials,mobile, as well as consumer and computing applications.

According to the DCF calculator, NXRI's intrinsic value is $18.88 a share, which indicates it may currently be overvalued because it is trading at $102.62 a share.

NXRI's current ratio is at a comfortable 2.18, which indicates the company has good short-term financial strength.

Loeb purchased 900,000 shares of FedEx Corp (FDX, Financial) at an average price of $173.58 a share.

FedEx is a provider of transportaion, e-commerce and business services through companies competing, operating and managing under the company's brand. FedEx was incorporated in 1992.

As of today, the current P/E ratio of 20.06 is close ot its two-year low of 18.81, which is a good sign for investors.

Loeb also added McKeeson Corp (MCK, Financial), JM Smucker Co (SJM, Financial), Maxim Integrated Products Inc (MXIM, Financial), Precision Castparts Corp (PCP, Financial), Delta Air Lines Inc (DAL, Financial) and Clayton WIlliams Energy Inc (CWEI, Financial).
