Hewlett-Packard (HPQ, Financial) is undergoing a major transformation that involves the separation of its businesses into two major companies, Hewlett-Packard Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise. The separation is expected to be completed by the end of this year. On Sept. 15 the company held a securities analyst meeting that provided greater detail on the dynamics of the two new businesses.

The day was segregated by two sessions focused on HP Enterprise and HP Inc. The firm’s management strongly believes that the separation will improve shareholder value for both companies as they trade separately. One of the most significant announcements from the day’s event was the layoff of approximately 30,000 workers. In interviews closely following the securities analyst meeting, Meg Whitman of HP gave her insight on the market values of the two companies and also discussed the decision to downsize.
