The flagship Shinyoung Marathon Equity Fund is a traditional value fund that invests in small to mid-market cap companies. Over the past five years, the fund has returned a cumulative 44.4%, outperforming the benchmark KOSPI Index, which returned a cumulative 16%.
The top five holdings of the Marathon Equity Fund are Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (XKRX:005930, Financial), Posco, Humax Co. Ltd. (XKRX:115160, Financial), OCI Co. Ltd. (XKRX:010060, Financial) and S&T Dynamics Co. Ltd. (XKRX:003570, Financial).
That outperformance extends to the firm’s other flagship fund, the Shinyoung Value High Dividend Equity Fund, which returned a cumulative 68.6% over the past five years.
Shinyoung follows a bottom-up approach and invests for the long term, pointing out that the average turnover for local asset managers in the past year was 243.4%, while Shinyoung’s was only 57.1%.
