Warren Buffett buys 39 million shares of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. (BNI, Financial), his investment company Berkshire Hathaway becomes the largest of shareholder of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. , according to the most recent filing of Berkshire Hathaway.
As of 04/05/2007, Berkshire owns 39,027,430 shares of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., that is about 10.9% of total outstanding shares. These shares are worth more than $3.2 billion today.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp, through its subsidiaries, is engaged primarily in the freight rail transportation business. BNSF transports a range of products and commodities derived from manufacturing, agricultural and natural resource industries. Its freight business consists of consumer products, industrial products, coal and agricultural products.
During his last shareholder letter, Warren Buffett claimed that there were two stocks that are not open public and he was still buying more. He wrote "We don’t itemize the two securities referred to, which have a market value of $1.9 billion, because we continue to buy them. I could, of course, tell you their names.
