The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,133.62 for a gain of 49.91 points or 0.82%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower for the day at 10.90 with a decrease of -1.14 points or -9.47%.

Stocks continued to regain some of their losses from last week. The Chicago Fed National Activity Index was the leading economic report for the day with an increase to 0.49 from 0.07.

In the broad market, utilities and technology stocks led gains. The S&P 500 utilities sector increased 0.86% for the day. The S&P 500 technology sector was 0.81% higher.

In small-caps, the Russell 2000 Index closed at 1,377.14 for a gain of 9.81 points or 0.72%. The S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 834.31 for a gain of 6.19 points or 0.75%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Growth TSM Index closed at 8,344.38 for a gain of 57.90 points or 0.70%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Value TSM Index closed at 9,409.22 for a gain of 55.37 points or 0.59%.
