US Market Indexes Gain on Friday

U.S. market indexes were higher on Friday.

For the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 21,858.32 for a gain of 14.31 points or 0.07%. The Standard & Poor's 500 closed at 2,441.32 for a gain of 3.11 points or 0.13%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,256.56 for a gain of 39.68 points or 0.64%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower at 15.51 for a loss of 0.53 points or 3.30%.

For the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 1.05%, the S&P 500 decreased 1.42%, and the Nasdaq Composite decreased 1.49%.

Friday’s market movers

Stocks were higher Friday regaining losses from geopolitical concerns throughout the week. The Consumer Price Index was the main economic focus for the day. The Index increased 0.1% for the week and 1.7% for the year.

The Dow Jones Small-Cap Growth TSM Index closed at 8,365.96 for a gain of 45.09 points or 0.54%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Value TSM Index closed at 9,362.81 for a loss of 23.05 points or 0.25%.

Other notable index closes included the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index at 1,711.05 for a gain of 3.22 points or 0.19%; the S&P 100 Index at 1,081.80 for a gain of 1.91 points or 0.18%; the Russell 3000 Index at 1,441.34 for a gain of 2.18 points or 0.15%; the Russell 1000 Index at 1,351.33 for a gain of 2.07 points or 0.15%; and the Dow Jones US Select Dividend Index at 653.44 for a loss of 1.93 points or 0.29%.
