The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,790.71 for a gain of 7.92 points or 0.12%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower at 10.65 for a loss of -0.78 points or -6.82%.
Monday’s market movers
Janet Yellen announced she would be resigning from the Federal Reserve. Investors continued to consider tax reform and had a more positive outlook on corporate earnings.
The Leading Economic Indicators Index was the only major economic report on the calendar for Monday. The Index increased 1.2% for the month.

In the broad market, financial and industrial stocks led gains. Technology was also higher with the S&P 500 technology sector gaining 0.38%.

The Dow Jones Small-Cap Growth TSM Index closed at 9,153.49 for a gain of 56.29 points or 0.62%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Value TSM Index closed at 10,031.53 for a gain of 50.42 points or 0.51%.
