We're heading into the home stretch, and all-star manager Bill Miller's Legg Mason Value Trust (Nasdaq:LMVTX - News) is a touch behind the S&P 500 Index thus far in 2005. (As of the market's close on Nov. 15, the fund was about .87 percentage points behind the index.) That puts his streak of beating the index--for 14 straight calendar years presently--in question for the second year in a row. In 2004, the fund was well behind the S&P late in the year, only to come back and beat it by a nose.
