Former Apple (AAPL, Financial) CEO John Sculley appeared on CNBC Wednesday. The interview focused on President Trump's tariffs, mergers, Apple's market cap and other topics.
Sculley gave pointed views on Trump's tariff policies. He believes China doesn't want a trade war and will avoid one. He based this on the fact China has a debt to GDP ratio of 160%, which would hurt the country greatly during a trade war.
He also believes the issue of tariffs is small compared the importance of trade for China. When questioned by the host, Sculley said we should take baby steps and not overreact. He believes the country is moving gradually away from globalism to something a little closer to protectionism.
Toward the end of the interview, Sculley was asked about Apple hitting a trillion-dollar market cap.He discusses how great a company Apple is and how it is about to expand its ecosystem. He said he believes Apple a luxury brand company moving to expand beyond iPhones.
