Political news kept stocks from trading higher on Tuesday. President Donald Trump reported the U.S. would be exiting a 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which also caused oil prices to trade lower for the day. Energy stocks managed to lead the day’s gains despite the news with the S&P 500 energy sector up 0.78%. Utilities stocks led losses for the day with the S&P 500 utilities sector down -2.50%.
The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index report was the only major economic news release on Tuesday. The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index increased to 104.8.
