Tuesday’s market movers
Stocks continued to gain Tuesday after one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year and a record-breaking Cyber Monday. Monday accounted for $7.9 billion in online sales, the highest ever and an increase of 20% from last year.
Tuesday’s trading did, however, include some headwinds. Oil prices were slightly lower and there were concerns over the U.S.’s plan on trade with China ahead of a Saturday negotiation meeting at the G20 Summit.

- The Trump Administration threatened to reduce subsidies to GM (GM, Financial) after the company reported cost-reduction measures.
- United Technologies (UTX, Financial) reported it would divide into three parts.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- The S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index increased 5.1% in September.
- The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index decreased to 135.7 in November from 137.9.
- The Treasury held auctions for four-week bills at 2.27% and five-year notes at 2.880%.
