Overview:

Boeing Co. (BA, Financial) CEO Dennis Muilenburg sat down for an interview with CNBC on Wednesday to discuss the company's quarterly earnings results.

The aircraft manufacturer had its best year in 2018, posting more than a $100 billion in sales for the first time in its 102-year history. Boeing's sales increased 8% to $101 billion, topping forecasts from Wall Street.

The company expects 2019 to be even better financially. It expects sales to hit somewhere between $109 billion to $111.5 billion. Operating income increased nearly 20% to $10.7 billion. Boeing delivered 806 commercial jets during the year, up nearly 6% from the previous year. Â

Clearly, the company's record year took Wall Street by surprise. Boeing's earnings were 90 cents per share higher than what Wall Street analysts estimated. During the interview, Muilenburg discussed the U.S.-China trade war and its business opportunities in China. He said over 90% of Boeing manufacturing is done in the U.S. and discussed how positive trade with China will help the company in the future.
