Tuesday’s market movers
The technology-focused Nasdaq Composite led gains on Tuesday while the large-cap Dow Jones Index posted a loss. Technology investing extended positive trading momentum with Chinese trade negotiations continuing this week and a strong manufacturing report from China on Monday. Across the equity market, however, global growth variables caused some resistance. Durable goods orders were down 1.6% in February and further challenges for the U.K. in successfully exiting the European Union both caused global growth concerns. In the Dow Jones, Walgreens Boots Alliance also fell 13.18% after the company missed earnings estimates and lowered its full-year earnings guidance.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- Durable goods orders decreased 1.6% in February.
- Preliminary vehicle sales began to be reported. Total vehicle sales are estimated to increase to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 16.8 million from 16.6 million.
