Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Emirates NBD 2019 First Half Results Announcement and Analysts and Investors Call and Webcast. If we are all ready to begin, I will now pass the call over to our host, Mr. Shayne Nelson, Group CEO of Emirates NBD.
Thank you, operator, and welcome to today's results call. Joining me as per usual will be Surya, the Group CFO; and Paddy, our Head of Investor Relations. The result presentation was -- are made available to you earlier today. We'll review the operational and financial highlights for the first half of the year. After which, you'll have the opportunity to ask questions.
We go to Page 3 of the presentation, it contains a summary of the key results. I'm pleased to report a healthy set of results with a net profit of AED 7.5 billion for the first half of 2019. This is a 49% increase from the first half of 2018, but includes a AED 2.1 billion gain on the partial disposal of the bank's investment in Network International. Excluding this gain, the bank's
