In a World of Increasing Space Threats, Kratos Helps Protect Critical Satellite, Signal and Network Assets

SAN DIEGO, March 30, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced milestones that help expand the ability of the U.S. government and commercial operators to combat the increasing range of threats to critical satellite communications infrastructure.
With its products supporting more than 90% of U.S. space missions, as well as supplying advanced control, management and protection solutions to government and commercial satellite operators around the globe, Kratos is the leading supplier of enterprise-grade ground segment products and services that assure availability, reliability, security and mission goals across satellites, signals and networks for communications and other space-enabled operations. Kratos’ satellite business has grown steadily as new technologies and new players have entered the space environment, along with new risks. Recent milestones for Kratos include numerous U.S. government and international awards, such as significant upgrades to the ground systems of major Middle-East, Asian and European satellite operators, as well as supplying highly specialized satellite communications security, signal protection and data management equipment to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence communities. Of particular note, Kratos recently announced a multi-million dollar contract with a leading space-related DoD agency to provide global, end-to-end satellite radio frequency monitoring, interference detection, geolocation and mitigation services. With its worldwide network of sensors and antennas, Kratos is the only company capable of providing such services, converging solutions across the military and commercial domains. According to Phil Carrai, President of Kratos’ Technology & Training Division, “As the DoD tackles new threats to and from satellite and space operations, and continues to refine and execute on their Space Enterprise Vision, Kratos fills a unique position bridging the military and commercial satellite worlds—something that is increasingly important, as the defense agencies rely upon commercial space operations to supplement their defense missions.” Other recent Kratos milestones supporting satellite mission assurance and space protection include major enhancements to several core product lines, including a major release of its Monics® signal monitoring product used by the DoD, as well as governments and companies around the world. Kratos also introduced new product lines to support the management and operations of new High Throughput Satellites (HTS) and small satellites, two technologies that are radically changing how both the defense and commercial sectors are achieving their missions in space. “The communications and security technologies being developed in our satellite group are tightly related to another key commitment area for Kratos, the UAV space, which faces similar signal assurance, command & control and security challenges,” said Eric DeMarco, President and CEO of Kratos. “Untethered, assured communications, whether in the atmosphere, LEO or GEO orbits is a key investment area for Kratos.” About Kratos Defense & Security Solutions

Kratos Advances to Gremlins Phase II as Subcontractor on Dynetics Team

Kratos Playing Key Role in Designing, Developing, and Leading Production of Prototype Gremlin Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

SAN DIEGO, March 16, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced today that its subsidiary, Composite Engineering, Inc. (CEi), is a subcontractor to Dynetics, which has been selected for award on Phase II of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) / Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Gremlins program. Under the Phase II contract, CEi will be a critical team member and will support Dynetics by designing, developing and building prototype Gremlin Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), tooling, and support equipment, as well as developing performance analyses, supporting subsystem testing, and planning for potential future phases.
DARPA Gremlins Phase I was awarded to four contractors, with Kratos being on two of the Phase I winning teams, one as prime contractor, and one as team member and subcontractor to Dynetics.  The Gremlins Phase II down select was planned for two of the Phase I awardees; with the final Phase, Phase III, planned to be awarded to a single contractor. The goal of the Gremlins program is to demonstrate safe and reliable aerial launch and aerial recovery of multiple unmanned aircraft, capable of employing and recovering diverse distributed payloads in volley quantities. Steve Fendley, President of Kratos' Unmanned Systems Division, said, "The Gremlins program, and specifically the Gremlin UAVs, have been a key element of our strategic focus for expanding our Tactical UAV family of products. We believe the Gremlin UAVs and operational concept substantially increase the utility of tactical UAVs as compared to today’s operations and will greatly enhance our warfighter’s capability through both technology and, more importantly, quantity of unmanned aircraft, i.e., mass.  Needless to say, our entire organization was thrilled when Kratos received two of the four Gremlins Phase I awards last year, one as a prime and the other as a subcontractor, which we believed was testimony to Kratos’ ability to quickly develop, design, prototype and produce high performance UAVs for a low cost.  We are now equally excited about Kratos’ advancement to Gremlins Phase II with Dynetics, one of the industry leaders in complex system engineering and integration, which we believe further validates Kratos’ unique capabilities in the high performance UAV area.” Mark Miller, the Dynetics Program Manager for Gremlins, said, “Kratos/CEi is a very important part of our Gremlins team. Our corporate cultures align well, and our capabilities complement one another. The expertise and experience they bring in rapid development of low-cost, re-usable, composite airframes combined with an innovative, agile, design team is exactly what this fast-paced program requires.”  Eric DeMarco, President and CEO of Kratos, said, “As a leading innovator of cutting-edge technology in the Unmanned Aerial Systems arena, and in line with our future objectives and internal development efforts over the past several years, Kratos is continuing to broaden our offering of high-performance unmanned jet aircraft, to include the Gremlin UAV, which fits a performance and cost niche comfortably inside our current range of target and tactical unmanned aircraft. We have consistently demonstrated our success in rapidly designing and delivering low cost, high performance unmanned jet aircraft, and we see this as critical with respect to the Gremlins requirement. Our strategic focus is consistent with the Department of Defense’s Third Offset Strategy, which emphasizes the need to rapidly prototype innovative technologies to counter emerging threats and provide the United States with an asymmetric advantage over our adversaries. This announcement is an exciting step forward for Kratos in our partnership with Dynetics. Kratos will do everything possible to support Dynetics in making Gremlins a successful program, and I look forward to continuing to work and support as a leader in the UAS market.” About Kratos Defense & Security Solutions

Kratos Awarded Multimillion Dollar Subcontract for Bandwidth Efficient Common Data Link (BE-CDL) Test Sets

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) BE-CDL Radios Are Critical to U.S. Military’s ISR Platform Interoperability

SAN DIEGO, March 14, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced today that its subsidiary, RT Logic, was awarded a contract from the prime contractor for two BE-CDL test sets to support CDL interoperability testing. The test sets will ultimately be used to ensure that Joint Warfighting IT capabilities are interoperable and support mission needs.
CDL is a family of data links that provides full duplex, jam resistant, point-to-point digital microwave communications designed to achieve data link interoperability and enable seamless communications among multiple intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) collection systems operated by the armed services and government agencies. Development of BE-CDL-supported radios that are small and light enough to fit on small UAS platforms is crucial to enabling interoperability across ISR platforms. Uniform interoperability testing is a critical step in that development. According to John Monahan, President of RT Logic, “The BE-CDL test set award was due, in part, to RT Logic’s solid reputation within the CDL community as waveform implementation experts, having consistently demonstrated interoperability in its CDL development.” About Kratos Defense & Security Solutions
