GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Sequoia Fund Comments on Liberty Broadband Guru stock highlight
Liberty Broadband (NASDAQ:LBRDA) is another holding company with essentially one asset: a large interest in leading U.S. cable company Charter Communications. We have long admired the management at Charter and view it as a competitively advantaged provider of what many describe as the essential utility of the 21st century: broadband internet service. Calculating the earning potential of this evolving, capital-intensive business is a complicated exercise, but by our reckoning, we purchased our stake for a low price relative to the cash profit growth we expect in coming years. Wally Weitz Comments on Liberty Broadband Guru stock highlight
Shares of Liberty Broadband (NASDAQ:LBRDA), which represent Liberty Media’s 26% stake in Charter Communications, declined ~11% during the fourth quarter. In October, Charter reported a larger-than-expected decline in video subscribers and slower growth in the high- speed data (i.e., broadband) business. While strategic interest in Charter’s core cable assets appears to remain high, management continues to believe the most tax- efficient path to maximizing shareholder value is by gradually improving the Time Warner Cable and Brighthouse assets standalone. Despite the fourth-quarter breather, shares of Liberty Broadband were healthy contributors to full-year performance. Read more...

Weitz Value Fund Comments on Liberty Broadband Guru stock highlight
Liberty Broadband (NASDAQ:LBRDA)’s principal asset consists of its interest in Charter Communications. In late January, rumors broke that Verizon Communications had made an informal acquisition offer to Charter Communications, sending both Charter and Liberty Broadband shares higher. We acknowledge that such a combination makes strategic sense for Verizon as it searches for an efficient means to deploy 5G wireless technology (which will require very dense, wired networks). However, we suspect shareholders can reap greater value from Charter continuing to integrate its Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks acquisitions on a stand- alone basis. That said, we believe management will pursue the right course (stand-alone or M&A) that will maximize long-term shareholder value. Read more...
