Comcast Corp Frequently Asked Questions
Guru Commentaries on NAS:CMCSA
We added several new, small long positions during the quarter: Comcast (CMCSA) is a diversified media and technology company with broadband, video and wireless businesses, alongside media, studios and theme parks. The stock declined about 60% over the past five years as structural and competitive pressures have weighed on its legacy broadband and video businesses. At our entry price of $23.91 per share, CMCSA traded at only 5x EBITDA, which we believe significantly undervalues its free cash flow generation and the collective value of its businesses. At the end of the quarter, CMCSA announced the spin-off of NBCUniversal, an important step that we believe should help highlight the value embedded within the company.
Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) is one of the largest wireline telecom service providers in the US. Despite underperforming due to a weak quarterly earnings result, largely attributed to AT&T's aggressive pricing strategy, we believe Comcast's share price does not fully reflect the business's growth from broadband pricing and wireless market share gains. The company is also separating its NBCU/Sky media businesses in a spinoff, which we view as a positive development, confirming our belief in the management team’s ability to create value. Our investment thesis remains intact.
Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) is one of the largest wireline telecom service providers in the US. The stock underperformed due to a weak quarterly earnings result, largely due to AT&T launching an aggressive pricing strategy. However, Comcast’s share price does not fully reflect the business’s growth from broadband pricing and wireless market share gains. The company announced it is separating its NBCU/Sky media businesses in a spinoff, which we view as positive, confirming our belief in the management's ability to create value. Our investment thesis remains intact.
Comcast Corporation is the largest multinational telecommunications and media conglomerate in the US, with a diverse portfolio including Xfinity cable, NBCUniversal, and Sky. The company is well positioned to benefit from sustained demand for internet and data access, supported by its difficult-to-replicate asset base. Comcast has demonstrated strong free cash flow, which has persisted through the peak of the capital cycle, and has a solid track record of returning cash to shareholders through both buybacks and dividends.
We have increased our position in Comcast Corporation Class A, recognizing its strong free cash flow yield of 7.9%, which significantly outperforms the market average. The company is well-positioned within the communication services sector, and its valuation metrics, including a P/E ratio of 12.5, indicate it is undervalued compared to peers. This combination of strong cash flow and attractive valuation supports our bullish outlook on Comcast as a key holding in our portfolio.
Comcast and Charter are currently trading at historically depressed valuations despite strong free cash flow generation and share repurchases. The manager believes that there is room in a diversified portfolio for positions that trade at cheap multiples with reasonable business prospects, which both Comcast and Charter fit at present. This suggests a positive outlook for Comcast as it continues to generate strong cash flow in a competitive environment.
We added to our position in Comcast with the proceeds from the Comcast cable channel spin-off Versant, which we sold during the quarter. This reflects our confidence in Comcast's potential as we believe it is well-positioned to benefit from market dynamics. The company’s operating performance and positioning are favorable, and we expect it to rebound strongly as the year unfolds.
The Fund initiated a position in Comcast Corp, a leading media and broadband provider in the United States. This investment reflects our belief in the company's strong market position and growth potential within the communications services sector. The ongoing demand for broadband and media services positions Comcast favorably for future revenue growth, aligning with our strategy of investing in companies that are trading at significant discounts to their intrinsic values.
We continue to hold Comcast for the time being, but admittedly our patience is wearing thin. Strength in the NBC Universal and Business Services divisions which account for 30% of profits, an impending divestiture of cable network deadweight (Versant), and a 4.2% dividend yield are enough to give Comcast a temporary reprieve while we wait another quarter or two for tangible proof that a more aggressive bundled offering of mobile and broadband is enough to reverse the underwhelming trends in domestic broadband subscriber growth.
Comcast’s (CMCSA) cable business is one of the largest wireline telecom service providers in the US. The Company’s shares fell during the quarter on concerns of slowing growth in its broadband business. However, we expect wireless growth and modest broadband pricing to drive net income growth that turns into strong earnings per share growth after capital return. Therefore, we believe that Comcast’s price does not fully reflect the telecom business’s growth from broadband pricing and share gain in the wireless market.
