GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Simulations Plus Inc is a developer of drug discovery and development software for mechanistic modelling and simulation and machine learning based technologies. It also explores the application of machine learning technologies in other industries.

Simulations Plus Inc was incorporated on July 17, 1996. The company designs and develops pharmaceutical simulation software to promote cost-effective solutions to a number of problems in pharmaceutical research and in the education of pharmacy and medical students. The company also develops and sell a productivity software program called Abbreviate. The company's reportable segments are strategic business units that offer different products and services. The company currently offers eight software products for pharmaceutical research and development: three simulation programs that provide time-dependent results based on solving large sets of differential equations: GastroPlus, DDDPlus, and MembranePlus; three programs that are based on predicting and analyzing static (not time-dependent) properties of chemicals: ADMET Predictor, MedChem Designer and MedChem Studio; one program for clinical trial data analysis and regulatory submissions called PKPlus; and one program called KIWI that provides an integrated platform for data analysis and reporting through its proprietary secure cloud. The company markets its pharmaceutical software and consulting services through attendance and presentations at scientific meetings, exhibits at trade shows, seminars at pharmaceutical companies and government agencies, through its web pages on the Internet, and using various communication media to the company's compiled database of prospect and customer names. The company competes against a number of established companies that provide screening, testing and research services, and products that are not based on simulation software.
