Muscat City Desalination Co SAOG is an Omani water utility that owns and operates the Al Ghubrah Independent Water Project, a seawater desalination plant supplying potable water to Muscat and surrounding areas in the Sultanate of Oman. The company produces and sells desalinated water under a long-term offtake agreement with the state-owned Oman Power and Water Procurement Company, which acts as the sole buyer of its output. Revenue is generated through a capacity investment charge, capacity operation and maintenance charges, output operation and maintenance charges, and electricity charges, providing predictable, availability-based income rather than merchant water sales. The plant uses reverse osmosis technology and is one of the principal sources of drinking water for the capital region.
