Sumitomo Metal Mining Co Ltd is a Japanese integrated producer of nonferrous metals and advanced materials. Its Mineral Resources segment explores, develops, and operates mines, chiefly copper and gold, including interests in overseas deposits such as Cerro Verde in Peru and Morenci in the United States. The Smelting and Refining segment processes copper, nickel, ferronickel, zinc, and precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, and palladium, selling refined metal and intermediate products to industrial customers worldwide. The Materials segment manufactures battery cathode materials, nickel-cobalt compounds, powder and crystalline materials, thick-film paste, and catalyst products, serving electronics, automotive, and battery manufacturers. The company also conducts real estate and engineering activities in Japan.
