Consolidated Edison Business Description

Address 4 Irving Place, Room 700, New York, NY, USA, 10003
Consolidated Edison Inc. is a holding company whose principal subsidiaries are Consolidated Edison Company of New York (CECONY) and Orange & Rockland Utilities (O&R). CECONY delivers electricity, natural gas, and steam to customers in New York City and Westchester County, while O&R serves parts of southeastern New York and northern New Jersey. The regulated utilities supply residential, commercial, and industrial customers and earn revenue primarily through regulated rate structures approved by state utility commissions. Con Edison also operates competitive energy businesses, including renewable and clean energy projects, and has expanded into large-scale solar and battery storage development. The company sold its clean energy business to RWE in early 2023, after which the regulated utilities account for nearly all of its earnings.
