South32 Ltd is an Australian diversified mining and metals company formed in 2015 through the demerger of noncore assets from BHP. It produces alumina and aluminium, with alumina operations in Australia and Brazil and aluminium smelters in Brazil, South Africa, and Mozambique, and it mines manganese in Australia and South Africa. The company also operates the Cannington silver-lead-zinc mine in Queensland and holds a 45% interest in the Sierra Gorda copper mine in Chile, alongside the Taylor zinc-lead-silver development project in Arizona. It sold its New South Wales metallurgical coal business and its Cerro Matoso nickel operation in Colombia, narrowing its portfolio toward aluminium, manganese, base metals, and copper. South32 sells commodities globally to industrial customers and traders, generating revenue primarily from commodity sales, with prices set by international markets.
