Agios Pharmaceuticals Inc is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, focused on cellular metabolism and rare diseases, particularly classical hematology. Its lead product, Pyrukynd (mitapivat), is an oral pyruvate kinase activator approved for pyruvate kinase deficiency, a rare inherited hemolytic anemia, and the company is also developing it for other hemolytic anemias and thalassemia. Agios markets Pyrukynd in the United States and several other countries and generates revenue primarily from product sales, alongside collaboration and royalty income. Its pipeline includes tebapivat, a pyruvate kinase activator being studied in lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes and sickle cell disease, and earlier-stage programs in hematology.
