Avantium NV is a Dutch renewable chemistry company that develops and commercializes bio-based plastics and chemicals. Its core technology converts plant-based sugars into furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA), the key building block for polyethylene furanoate (PEF), a recyclable, plant-based alternative to PET for bottles, packaging and fibers. The company is commercializing this through its FDCA plant in Delfzijl, Netherlands, and the Dawn Technology pilot biorefinery, which produces industrial sugars and lignin from non-food biomass. Avantium also operates a catalyst testing business, supplying advanced high-throughput R&D systems and services to chemical and energy companies worldwide. Revenue comes from catalyst testing equipment and services, licensing and technology development agreements, and emerging sales of FDCA and PEF. Customers include chemical producers, consumer goods and packaging companies, and research organizations, primarily in Europe, with additional activity in North America and Asia.
