The IBM Retirement Fund is a private investment management organization that provides benefit services for IBM employees. The fund was established in 1983 and is currently based out of White Plains, New York, which the company relocated to from its previous headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. The IBM Retirement Fund is one of the largest retirement focused pension funds in the world. The corporate pension fund invests in a variety of public equity, alternative, and fixed income markets mainly within the U.S. IBM Retirement Fund typically invests in private equity, venture capital, real estate opportunities, and mezzanine, preferring to allocate approximately 10% of its total held assets into alternative investments. The fund established the IBM Pernsonal Pension Plan in 1999, which would replace the IBM Retirement Plan in the US. The funds of the IBM Retirement Fund are split into two main pools of capital – a pool for its defined benefit plan and a pool for its defined contribution plan.
