Up 8% over 12 months, First American Financial Corp., an insurance company, has a market cap of $2.64 billion; its shares trade with a P/E ratio of 12.10. The dividend yield is 1.90%.

Company Earnings: The company reported financial results for the third quarter of 2013 with revenue of $1.3 billion, up 8% compared to the same quarter of 2012. Net income was $63.9 million for the quarter, down from $103.5 million in the third quarter of 2012. Earnings of $0.59 per diluted share for the reporting quarter also dropped from $0.95 per diluted share in the same quarter a year ago.

Company Earnings: The company reported financial results for its fiscal 2013 fourth quarter ended September 28, 2013, with revenue of $37.5 billion and a quarterly net profit of $7.5 billion. Earnings of $8.26 per diluted share were reported for the quarter. In the same fiscal quarter a year ago, revenue was lower, at $36 billion, but with a higher net profit of $8.2 billion. Earnings in the same quarter a year ago were $8.67 per diluted share.

According to a company press release, Apple Inc. sold 33.8 million iPhones, up from 26.9 million in the same quarter a year ago. The company sold slightly more iPads during the reporting quarter at 14.1 million iPads, up from 14 million in the same quarter a year ago. Macs sold 4.6 million units, down from 4.9 million in the same quarter a year ago.

The company’s GAAP net income attributable was $586 million. GAAP earnings of $0.27 per weighted average diluted share were reported for the third quarter of 2013. EMC’s operating cash flow was up25% year-over-year, at $4.7 billion as of October 22, 2013. EMC’s balance sheet for the third quarter lists $17.5 billion in cash and investments.
