Guru Commentaries on NAS:ALNT
I trimmed Allient (ALNT) as a function of the stock running significantly from a purchase price below $20 in late 2024 to a price in the $50's. As the price has continued to run into the mid-$70's per share after quarter-end, I have continued to trim. This suggests that while I recognize the company's past performance, I am cautious about its current valuation and future prospects in the context of the broader market dynamics.
We sold out of a small position in Allient (ALNT) as the company approached our fair value estimate. Our initial analysis included what I viewed as a safeguard against significant value destruction: the board's experience. However, we failed to appreciate the interconnected personal and professional relationships among key board members, which contributed to significant governance failures. The prior chairman's lack of financial alignment and preoccupation with Allient likely impacted the decision-making process, leading to poor capital allocation and ultimately a catastrophic acquisition for AstroNova.
