General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) is a state-owned reinsurer headquartered in Mumbai and the sole Indian reinsurer designated as the national reinsurer. It provides reinsurance capacity to general insurance companies in India across segments including fire, marine, motor, engineering, aviation, health, agriculture, credit, liability, and personal accident, and also writes some life reinsurance. GIC Re operates through branches and subsidiaries in markets such as the UK, Dubai, Singapore, and South Africa, and serves insurers across SAARC countries, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. It participates in obligatory cessions from Indian insurers and offers facultative and treaty reinsurance, including proportional and non-proportional covers.
